Arecibo General Catalog

(AGC)
(catalog of galaxies to support ALFALFA surveys)

The Arecibo General Catalog (AGC) is a catalog of galaxies to specifically formed to support studies carried out using Arecibo Observatory, such as ALFALFA. The prefix AGC is used for galaxy designators, using the galaxy's id number in this catalog, which is the same as its Uppsala General Catalogue (UGC) id number, or for galaxies not in the UGC, a larger number is used. The AGC prefix is also sometimes used to designate a galaxy clusters using the "galaxy cluster" code number used by this catalog, and given these two usages, the same designator can refer to a galaxy and a (likely-unrelated) galaxy cluster.
