Astronomical Image Processing System (AIPS) is software to process radio telescope observation data, including that of radio interferometers. Development began in 1978 and it is still being updated.
An early 2000s re-implementation in C++ is called AIPS++; a reason for this version was for use with ALMA. The earlier version, which is written in Fortran, is still widely used and is sometimes referred to as AIPS classic to distinguish it. ParselTongue is a Python interface for (classic) AIPS. I believe AIPS++ includes its own a Python interface.
