alpha CO

CO)
(ratio of CO emissions to H2)

Alpha CO (αCO) is the ratio of carbon monoxide emission to molecular hydrogen (H2) mass in galaxies. It can be best estimated by studying nearby galaxies that offer numerous means of determining H2 mass, and the estimate can be used with further galaxies to estimate their H2 mass.
