amine

(type of compound containing nitrogen)

An amine is a compound including nitrogen that is essentially ammonia (NH3) with one or more of the three hydrogen atoms that are attached to the nitrogen atom replaced by a group of atoms essentially consisting of "most of a hydrocarbon". (Whether ammonia should be called an amine is a matter of semantics.) Amino acids are examples of amines.
