Africa Millimetre Telescope

(AMT)
(planned 15 m radio telescope array in Namibia)

The Africa Millimetre Telescope (AMT) is a millimeter/submillimeter telescope in development, to be co-located with the High Energy Stereoscopic System (HESS) on Gamsberg Mountain, Namibia. The project is motivated by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) effort, which can be improved by including such telescopes spaced throughout the world. The plan is to relocate the (currently idle) Swedish-ESO Submillimetre Telescope (SEST) dish, I'm guessing with a new (EHT-compatible) receiver. The goal is operation in 2025.
