Calar Alto Observatory

Calar Alto Observatory (Observatorio de Calar Alto) is an observatory on the plateau, Calar Alto in Andalusia, Spain, at an altitude of around 3100 meters. Telescopes include:

• MPI-CAHA 3.5m.
• 2.2-meter.
• 1.5-meter, operated by the Observatory of Madrid.
• 1.23-meter.
• 0.8-meter Schmidt telescope.

Among the instruments is CARMENES on the 3.5-meter telescope, a dual-channel (near-infrared and optical) spectrograph, designed to discover extra-solar planets orbiting M dwarfs using the radial velocity method.
