Cosmic Background Explorer
(COBE, Explorer 66)
(1989 satellite for surveying the CMB)
The Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) was
a NASA satellite to survey the cosmic microwave background (CMB)
launched in 1989 and operating for 4 years.
Instruments:
COBE was pioneering: subsequent similar missions using newer technology
are WMAP and Planck.
