collisional erosion

(removing a body's substance through impacts)

The term collisional erosion, i.e., erosion due to collisions (impacts) is used in a number of contexts, e.g., for planetoids, such as during phases of planet formation when impacts are frequent. As such, it is considered in the formation of all the bodies of the solar system, including asteroids, in which direct signs of it may be evident, thus allowing more straight-forward interpretation of their history.
