A cosmological zoom simulation is a cosmological simulation plus repeat simulations of selected areas, e.g., with higher spatial, mass, and/or time resolution. For example, galaxy behavior at redshift 2 is of high interest so a volume around chosen galaxies in a cosmological simulation can be run at higher resolution. By trying different resolutions, a convergence of results (resolution convergence) might be attained, i.e., when additional zooms add detail but don't result in radical differences.
