Digitized Sky Survey

(DSS)
(digitization of Palomar and UK Schmidt plates)

The Digitized Sky Survey (DSS) is digitizations of plates from surveys of the pre-CCD age. Its initial effort was digitizing plates from the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS) and the UK Schmidt Survey to produce the Guide Star Catalog (GSC) for HST observations. Subsequent efforts with plates of other surveys are termed DSS2.
