Fanaroff-Riley classification

(FR classification)
(a classification of the radio characteristics of radio sources)

The Fanaroff-Riley classification (FR classification) is a classification of radio sources intended to distinguish radio galaxy with lobes from active galactic nuclei.

The first appears to be an AGN, the second, a radio galaxy with lobes (regions away from the center emitting much of the radio electromagnetic radiation).
