(initiative to track artificial spacecraft including space junk)
The Ground-Base Electro-Optical Deep Space Surveillance
(GEODSS) is a US Space Force organization/initiative to
track artificial satellites and other spacecraft, including
abandoned equipment such as rocket stages left in orbit, i.e.,

It monitors a shell-shaped region surrounding Earth
beginning about 3000 miles above the surface, and extending beyond
geosynchronous orbit distance.
It operates telescopes at three sites.
