Gliese-Jahreiss Catalog

(GJ, Third Catalogue of Nearby Stars)
(1991 catalog of stars within 25 parsecs)

Gliese-Jahreiss Catalog (abbreviated GJ) is generally used for the Third Catalogue of Nearby Stars, a 1991 third edition of Wilhelm Gliese's Catalog of Nearby Stars, this edition in collaboration with Helmut Jahreiss, and covering 3803 stars. Some updates have been made since the 1991 edition.

Over time, the set of qualifying stars changes as dim stars (Red Dwarves and Brown Dwarves) are discovered and Stellar Distance Determination improves. The stars remain of interest because their nearness allows better observation as new technology develops, including hunting for and observing Extra-Solar Planets.
