Messier 106 (M106 or NGC 4258)
is a spiral galaxy about
24 million light-years' distant.
It is a Seyfert galaxy with a detected supermassive black hole (SMBH).
It also features a substantial water maser,
classifying it as a megamaser galaxy.
It hosts Cepheid variables that have been particularly useful in
developing the cosmic distance ladder.
