The Magellan spacecraft
(early name: Venus Radar Mapper or VRM)
was a NASA space probe
to map Venus using radar, launched in 1989
(from the Space Shuttle)
and carrying out its mission from 1990 to 1994.
Its principal instrument, termed RDRS, was
a radar system for mapping the surface elevation
and carrying out some geological investigation.
