magnetosonic wave
(magnetoacoustic wave)
(a type of sonic wave in a plasma)
A magnetosonic wave (or magnetoacoustic wave)
is particular type of wave in a magnetized plasma:
it is a longitudinal "acoustic" (i.e., "sonic") wave
that propagates perpendicular to the magnetic field.
It is one of a number of kinds of plasma waves,
i.e., involving electromagnetic forces.
