NBODY

(code to carry out N-body simulations)

NBODY is a well-known family of Fortran codes to carry out N-body simulations for stellar dynamics, developed by Sverre Aarseth. NBODY1 was developed in the 1960s and NBODY6 in the 1990s (and beyond) and is widely used. There is also an NBODY0 (added out of order, to offer a particular technique) and an NBODY7. The eight numbered versions are all still available: they vary in the techniques they use, which likely affects their efficiency, scaling sweet spots, and the phenomena they are suitable for modeling. Sverre Aarseth also developed HERMIT, an additional series of such codes that use Hermite methods.
