Ohmic heating (aka Joule heating or resistance heating) is the heating of an imperfect electrical conductor as electricity flows through it. Electric wires are chosen with high conductivity to minimize Ohmic heating, electronics release heat through the process, and the phenomena is used for electric heating, including electric stove burners, and incandescent lighting. In planetary science, if a voltage is present within a planets, as can be generated by a dynamo, current can result, producing Ohmic heating. In electromagnetic phenomena in plasma can do the same.
