Ooty Radio Telescope
(ORT)
(cylindrical radio telescope in India)
The Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT)
is a radio telescope near Ooty
in southern India that went into service
in 1970. It senses a band
centered on 326.5 MHz.
It is a tiltable cylindrical telescope 530 meters
long and 30 meters across.
It has an equatorial mount,
accomplished by locating it on 11-degree sloping ground,
compensating for the location's 11-degree latitude.
An electronics upgrade taking place since 2010 is termed
the Ooty Wide Field Array (OWFA).
