PAMELA for (Payload for Antimatter Matter Exploration and Light-nuclei Astrophysics) was an instrument to study cosmic rays that was attached to a Russian commercial satellite, operating from 2006 to 2016. PAMELA was a European collaboration, the instrument built in Italy. Its particular emphasis was detecting antimatter (positrons and/or antiprotons) cosmic ray particles.
