Phoenix

Phoenix (i.e., Mars Phoenix)
was a mission launched in 2007 by NASA
to land on and study Mars.
It landed in 2008, operating for five months.
Since its landing site was in the polar region
with very harsh conditions,
it had been clear that years of operation would be unlikely,
and the primary mission specified three months.
Instruments:
- RAC - Robotic Arm Camera.
- SSI - Surface stereo imager.
- TEGA - Thermal and evolved gas analyzer.
- MARDI - Mars Descent Imager.
- MECA - Microscopy, Electrochemistry, and Conductivity Analyzer.
- TECP - Thermal and Electrical Conductivity Probe.
- MET - Meteorological Station.
The name Phoenix has other uses in astronomy, such as
a code (PHOENIX stellar model)
and a former Gemini Observatory instrument.
