RATAN-600

(Radio Astronomical Telescope Academy Nauk 600)
(ring-shaped radio telescope in Russia)

RATAN-600 (for Radio Astronomical Telescope Academy Nauk 600) is a radio telescope in Zelenchukskaya, Russia, featuring 895 rectangular reflectors arranged in a ring 576 meters' across. The reflectors can be individually adjusted to reflect the radio signal to its receivers, optionally indirectly through more reflectors. This configuration gives it the angular resolution of a 576-meter dish but with an effective collecting area (considering the angling needed to converge the signal) on the order of 1000 square meters. Angling the reflectors gives it more utility, but it is most effective observing the zenith, at which it can achieve arcminute angular resolution. at a 10-cm wavelength.
