OSAM-1

(Restore-L)
(prototype space robot for servicing satellites)

OSAM-1 (formerly called Restore-L) is a NASA robot space mission under construction, aimed at servicing and refueling an existing satellite. The current target is Landsat 7 which has been in service since 1999. OSAM-1 is a prototype of the technologies, in anticipation of performing this type of service regularly. Launch has been delayed from earlier hopes: as of 2024, any launch will be 2026 at the earliest.

OSAM-1 is part of NASA's On-Orbit Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing (OSAM) program. Another OSAM satellite is OSAM-2 (aka Archinaut), was intended to prototype on-site (i.e., in space) 3D-printing-based construction. After some development, the OSAM-2 flight was canceled.
