spin-down luminosity

(pulsar's energy extracted from slowing rotation)

A pulsar's spin-down luminosity is the rate at which its slowing rotation is losing kinetic energy. This amount does not necessarily match the energy of the pulsar's electromagnetic radiation emission: there can be other energy sources and sinks.
