structure formation

(formation of dark matter halos, galaxy clusters, and galaxies)

Structure formation, the development of the large scale structure aka cosmic web, which is central to cosmology, refers to the manner of the formation of dark matter halos, galaxy clusters, and galaxies. Cosmological simulations attempt to duplicate characteristics of the structure formation that are apparent from cosmological observation such as redshift surveys and surveys of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Lambda-CDM model is the cosmological model currently considered most likely to be governing the universe's evolution and modeling of structure formation attempts to work out Lambda-CDM's implications as well as to explore adjustments to the model that fit observational data more closely.
