30 Doradus

30 Doradus (the Tarantula Nebula)
is a nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC),
viewed within the constellation Dorado.
It is very bright, especially for its distance,
with an apparent magnitude of +8.
It contains the most active star-forming region within the Local Group,
containing a large HII region that is hundreds of parsecs
across.
Within it is the stellar cluster, NGC 2070.
SN 1987A occurred close to the nebula.
