A tesla (T) is the SI unit of magnetic field strength or magnetic flux density (B). It is defined as a weber per square meter. A particle carrying a charge of one coulomb passing perpendicularly through a magnetic field of one tesla at a speed of one meter-per-second experiences a force of one newton. 1 tesla equals 10,000 gauss, the CGS unit measuring the same physical property.
