Virgo Cluster

(nearby large galaxy cluster)

The Virgo Cluster is a nearby large galaxy cluster, at the heart of the Virgo Supercluster. It includes a number of galaxies known for a long time, such as M87 in the Messier Catalog. It comprises 1300 to 2000 member galaxies. The Milky Way is not within it but rather in the Local Group, a group smaller than what's generally considered a galaxy cluster.
