Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte
(WLM, DDO 221)
(irregular galaxy at edge of Local Group)
Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte (WLM or DDO 221)
is a dwarf irregular galaxy at the edge of the Local Group,
discovered in 1909. It has low metallicity, and has been
studied as a representative of such galaxies. It has other
unusual properties making it of interest, including a pronounced
rotation curve suggesting much more dark matter than usual,
and a rotation-curve asymmetry.
