flavor

(subtype of some type of particle)

The physics term flavor is used for the individual types of some classes of subatomic particles. The standard model includes the six known quark flavors, termed up, down, strange, top, bottom, and charm, and the six known lepton flavors, three of the lepton flavors being the electron, the muon, and the tau, and the other three being the three neutrino types, electron neutrino, muon neutrino, and tau neutrino.
