Gaia Celestial Reference Frame
(Gaia-CRF3, Gaia Celestial Reference Frame 3)
(celestial reference frame based upon Gaia data)
The Gaia Celestial Reference Frame is a
celestial reference frame based upon data from
the Gaia mission, an optical
reference frame used to establish positions within the International Celestial Reference System (ICRS).
Such reference frames provide established positions of
observable astronomical objects on which to base
celestial coordinates of any observable object.
The most recent version is Gaia-CRF3,
based upon Gaia DR 3,
previous Gaia-based versions termed the
Gaia CRF and Gaia-CRF2, which
supplanted the earlier Hipparcos Celestial Reference Frame (HCRF).
