The phrase data release (DR) is commonly used in conjunction with surveys: meaning the making available of data from the survey after some of its observation, possibly after follow-up clean-up, analysis and/or interpretation. If there is additional observation to be carried out and/or more analysis, there may be subsequent data releases, often identifying them as DR1, DR2, etc. After the termination of the observation effort and follow-up, a data release may be designated the survey's final data release.
Many surveys make their data available in such manner, e.g., Sloan Digital Sky Survey.
