GOODS (Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey) is a survey oriented toward the initial galaxy formation in the early universe, consisting of data collected from NASA (Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer Space Telescope, Chandra X-ray Observatory), European Space Agency (XMM-Newton, Herschel Space Observatory) and ground-based observatories. Two survey fields covered are GOODS-North and GOODS-South, in the northern and southern hemispheres, each of about 1/20 square degree. Efforts began in 2003, gathering existing data and starting additional observations.
