heliosheath

(outer layer of the heliosphere beyond its termination shock)

The heliosheath is the outer region of the heliosphere where the solar wind has already slowed to subsonic speed (the region of slowing termed the heliosphere's termination shock) and is interacting with the interstellar medium, about 80 to 100 AU at its closest. The Voyager spacecrafts have reached it and subsequently reached and passed the heliopause, its far edge.
