Centaurus A (NGC 5128 or Caldwell 77) is a nearby radio galaxy, which is one of the Council of Giants (12 sizable galaxies near the Local Group). It has an AGN that has a relativistic jet. Its SMBH of about 55 million solar masses has been a target of the Event Horizon Telescope. Distance determinations have varied, generally in the 3-4 Mpc range. Centaurus A and its satellite galaxies comprise the Centaurus A Subgroup of the galaxy group, Centaurus A/M83 Group, along with galaxy M83 (NGC 5236) and its subgroup. Centaurus A characteristics:
