Non-thermal emission is electromagnetic radiation emission not due to the heat (temperature) of the source (e.g., an astronomical object). In other words, emission other than thermal emission. The term is sometimes used for radiation that has been modified such that it no longer has the spectral energy distribution (SED) associated with thermal radiation. Emission lines are not classified as non-thermal. Non-thermal radiation is generally recognized through spectral features that suggest something other than the black-body radiation.
