Barnard's Loop

(sh 2-276)
(emission nebula in Orion)

Barnard's Loop is an emission nebula in the constellation, Orion. It is part of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, forming an arc around Orion Nebula. It is about 10 degrees in diameter, encircling quite a bit of the highly-recognizable portion of Orion, including the belt. One theory is it is portion of a shell that is visible to us, the result of a supernova.
