ESO Schmidt Telescope
(1 meter telescope in Chile with a wide field-of-view)
The ESO Schmidt Telescope is a 1-meter Schmidt camera
at La Silla Observatory, Chile in operation since 1971.
Its field of view is 5.4° by 5.4°, intended for surveys,
originally using photography, producing widely-used sets of plates.
More recently, it has been the home of QUEST,
a CCD-based survey-camera installed in 2009 after previous
use on the Palomar 48 Inch Telescope.
