OIR

(optical and infrared)
(a spectral "band name" for both visible light and infrared)

The term OIR (for optical and infrared) indicates both optical astronomy and infrared astronomy and is used to describe astronomy and telescopes that cover both these bands. The mirrors of visible light telescopes can focus infrared light so with infrared-sensitive instruments, they can cover both bands. Also, the same phenomena viewed in visible light nearby is detected in the infrared at somewhat further distance, due to redshift.
