UK Schmidt Telescope

(UKST)
(1.2 meter telescope in Australia with wide field-of-view)

The UK Schmidt Telescope (UKST) is a 1.24-meter Schmidt camera at Siding Spring Observatory, Australia, in operation since 1973, currently operated by the Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO). Its field of view is 6° by 6°, intended for surveys, originally using photography, and for years it continually surveyed, producing a large set of plates still available, e.g., for proper motion studies. More recently, it has been the home of a multi-object spectrograph, 6dF, and as of 2017, of TAIPAN.
